چکیده
Radio-quiet QSO environments-I. The correlation of QSOs and b J < 23 galaxies. ABSTRACT In this paper we present results of an analysis of radio-quiet QSO environments. The aim is to determine the relation between QSOs, galaxies and the mass distribution as a function of redshift. We cross-correlate a sample of ∼ 150 QSOs from optically and X-ray selected catalogues with faint, b J < 23, galaxies. These data allow us to probe the galaxy clustering environment of QSOs out to z ∼ 1.0 − 1.5. Far from giving a positive correlation, at z < 1.5 the QSO-galaxy cross-correlation function is marginally negative, with ω(θ < 120 ′′) = −0.027 ± 0.020. Colour information suggests that the anti-correlation is most significant between the QSOs and the red galaxy population. We have constructed models to predict the QSO-galaxy cross-correlation, using the known form of the galaxy N (z) at b J < 23, and assuming a variety of clustering evolution rates. Cases in which QSOs exist in rich cluster environments are comfortably ruled out at more than 5σ and the results are more consistent with a 'normal' galaxy environment for radio-quiet QSOs. If the small anti-correlation is interpreted as an effect of gravitational lensing, this conclusion is not altered. In this case, the data are only ∼ 1σ below the low clustering amplitude models, while the high amplitude models are still comfortably rejected. We therefore conclude that these QSOs may not be much more highly biased than optically selected galaxies.

متن کاملObserving the galaxy environment of QSOs
We outline our recently started program to investigate the galaxy environment of QSOs, in particular of radio–quiet objects at intermediate redshifts. 1 Studies of QSO environments Galaxy environment studies of QSOs and of their host galaxies are important since tidal interaction with neighbouring galaxies is thought to be one fundamental mechanism for triggering AGN activity (e.g. Osterbrock(1...
متن کاملThe CORALS Survey II : Clues to Galaxy Clustering Around
We present a list of z abs ∼ zem (∆v < 3000 km s −1) DLAs discovered during the CORALS survey for absorbers in a radio-selected QSO sample. On the assumption that z abs ∼ zem DLAs are neither ejecta from the QSO, nor part of the host galaxy itself, we use the number density statistics of these DLAs to investigate galaxy clustering near the QSO redshift. We find that n(z) of z abs ∼ zem DLAs in ...

Context. Quasars trace the most massive structures at high redshifts and their presence may influence the evolution of the massive host galaxies. Aims. We study the extended Lyα emission line regions (EELRs) around seven bright, mostly radio-quiet quasars (QSOs) at 2.7 < z < 4.5, and compare luminosities with EELRs around radio-loud QSOs reported in the literature. Methods. Using integral field...

We report the detection of the host Galaxy of the radio quiet QSO Q01511048A at z51.922. Deep U, B and I imaging of the QSO pair Q01511048A1B obtained at the Nordic Optical Telescope in good seeing has revealed a very luminous host (M ̄ 2 24 in all three bands assuming V 51) centred on the position of Q01511048A. The colours and extreme obs m brightness of this host galaxy resembles the ones re...
